Where did the name Camp Cherith come from?

In the book of First Kings, Chapter 17, verses 3 and 5 we are told that Elijah was told by the Lord to go to the Brook Cherith to hide from Jezebel and await further instruction. It was a period of both trial and refreshment where he reflected and further learned to trust the Lord our God.

What happens in a “typical” day at Camp Cherith?

While all of the 25 Camp Cherith camps are unique and have special features, they have many things in common.  So, regardless of which of the Cherith camps you decide on, you will find that there are certain things you can count on if you are a Cherith camper.  Your day would include:

  • Flag Raising - officially starts the camp day.
  • Morning Watch - campers spend time alone reading God' Word and praying.
  • Cabin Capers - cabins are cleaned and prepared for inspection.
  • Bible Exploration - cabin groups explore the Word under the skillful direction of a trained cabin counselor
  • Skill Building Activities - campers select activities to do each day where they learn new skills and experience new things.   Activities might include swimming. canoeing, biking, archery, riflery, campcraft, outdoor cooking, nature and crafts.
  • Free Time - campers have time to relax with friends, cabin mates, counselors and camp staff.  Visits to the camp store (Tuck shop) are made during free time.
  • Three Great Meals - planned and prepared with you in mind.  There are many favorite meals but always with nutrition as the focus.
  • Evening Program - special evening programs relating to the Camp Theme.  They provide fun, enjoyment and special memories.
  • Singing and Campfires - There are songs at meals and throughout the day.   Campfires always add a special touch to end the day.
  • Cabin Devotions - counselors spend time with their campers each evening in a time of reflection and prayer.

Where are the other Camp Cheriths located?

There are 23 Camp Cheriths located through North America.
