as a Staff Member

Positions

  • cabin counselor:  lives with the campers and leads Bible Exploration

  • special teams:  performs "behind the scenes" duties

  • activity specialist:  has special certification to lead skilled activities

  • registered nurse:  oversees the health of the camp

  • tuck shop manager:  runs the camp store

  • dining hall host/hostess:  supervises the campers setting tables

  • assistant cook:  works in the kitchen under the head cook

Qualifications

  • personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ

  • positive Christian life style

  • willingness to serve in a variety of ways

  • willingness to learn and grow

Application

  • written application:  requests basic information and personal testimony

  • references:  needed from two non-family members

  • background check:  state law requires clearance by the Department of Children and Families

Training

  • pre-camp:  a full day the third Saturday of May in Tampa

  • in-camp:  a day and a half on site before the opening of girls' or boys' camp

  • staff notebook:  Each staff member reads a manual that contains camp policies and procedures along with lots of helpful hints.

  • division director:  Each staff member has a DD (supervisor) who will give "on the job" training during camp.

  • mentor:  Each new staff member is assigned a return staff member who will provide pre-camp support.

  • activities:  Camp offers skilled training in many areas.

  • distance education:  on-line training provided by the Association of Cherith Camps
